The Heir by Kierra Cass Review

Hello everyone!

Before I get into todays post I wanted to let everyone know that I will not be making a Wrap up for May because I only read two books this month and I will be reviewing those two books. The two books I finished this month were The Heir and The Crown by Kiera Cass

Today I want to discuss with you my thoughts on The Heir. Before you start reading this review I just want to let you know that if you have not read The Heir or the first three books in The Selection Series I would go away and come back when you have finished the books. There are going to be spoilers.

The Heir

Just like the original Selection Series I really enjoyed this novel. (But...) My feelings toward this series are conflicting at the moment. This series makes me happy but also frustrates me. I am mainly frustrated with the characters in this series.

My feelings toward Eadlyn are the same feelings that I had toward America, which are annoyed/ angry. I found America annoying because she was indecisive throughout the three books and I find Eadlyn annoying because she is very self absorbed and rude. She constantly says that she is going to be queen and no one is more powerful than she is. Eadlyn is also constantly rude to people. She is especially rude to the boys in the Selection, specifically when she is eliminating the first eleven boys.

One thing that I thought was kind of strange was when Eadlyn was talking about how handsome Aspen was.

"General Leger had these sparkling green eyes that shimmered with mischief, one of those men who grew even more handsome as he aged. I knew it for a fact because Miss Lucy once showed me a picture of their wedding day, and he seriously only got better looking". (P.74)

It was just very awkward reading this because she had no idea that her mother was in love with him before she married Maxon. Even though it wasn't needed I wish that would have been brought up. I wanted Eadlyn to find out more about Americas selection then she did.

As Eadlyn has decreases the amount of people who are in the Selection and I am curious to see who she picks to spend the rest of her life with. (At this point in time I have not read The Crown. I wanted to get all of my thoughts and feelings out about The Heir before I started The Crown.)

The last thing that I will probably be talking about in this review is the ending. I thought that the ending was rushed. I did not like that two major events happen within a matter of pages.

The events that I am talking about are Ahren and Camilles wedding along with America having a heart attack. I predicted them getting married but I did not predict the heart attack happening and if I thought any character was going to have a heart attack, I would have guessed Maxon because throughout the entire book it is talked about how stressed and tired he looks.

Since the ending was so abrupt and Eadlyn was so frustrating I only gave this book a 3.5/5 stars on Goodreads.

Hopefully the ending to the entire series will be better. I have an idea of who is going to be the last man standing and I hope that man is the one I picked. I will let you know if my prediction was correct in my review for The Crown, which I hope will be up on Thursday.

Thank you for reading.
I hope you have a nice day.

Why I love to read!

Hello everyone!

I am just going to start out by warning you that this weeks post is probably going to be really long. I am sorry if you do not like long posts. I guess you can come back next week or you can read other posts I have put up this month.

Posts from this month:
Plans For The Summer
April Wrap Up
A Night Out!

Today I want to talk about why I read and what I love about reading. I sat down and thought about why I read and my love for reading these last few days. I started thinking about this after I spent the day with my younger sister.

What happened...

So two days ago, five days ago when you are reading this, I went with my sister to the college she attends because she needed some text books for her summer classes. She goes to a university out of state and she just recently got home for the summer, so I wanted to catch up with her. After we went to the college we had a few errands to run. While running these errands we past a Barnes and Noble, which is heaven, and she told me we are not going in there. My sister does not read unless she is forced and the idea of going into a bookstore is probably torture for her. I was okay with not going in to Barnes and Noble because if I did I would probably come out with a substantial decrease in my bank account. Its hard for me to leave a bookstore empty handed especially when I am in the bargain book section, which is the first place I look when going into a bookstore.

What really got me thinking was what my sister said as we were passing the Barnes and Noble. She told me I have my whole life to act like a sixty year old.

I don't think that reading makes you a sixty year old. Yes, I will admit that people probably find me strange when I tell them that my idea of a perfect Friday night is curling up with a warm blanket, a cup of tea or coffee, and cracking open a book rather than going to a party. At this point in my life I don't find the idea of partying appealing and that is what (probably) makes me sound like a sixty year old but everyone has their priorities in life.

Anyway....

I thought I could make a list telling you why I love to read.

1.) My first reason is that I love the worlds authors create. Whether the world is based off of real places or if the author made the world up. I love reading their take on the world and how they develop the world as the story goes on.
2.) Relationships are my second reason that I love reading books and this is probably my favorite reason for reading books. The relationship can be between siblings, parents and kids, a romantic one, or a friendship. The characters are what I really focus on when reading a book. I like to figure out the relationships and guess where they are going to be at the end of the book.

3.) The escape is my third reason that I love reading. I know a lot of people that read say this but I love the fact that I can pick any book and escape my life for a little while. My life isn't terrible, it could definetely be worse, but I just enjoy the escape.

4.) My last reason that I love to read is not about the individual story that is created but what books as a whole can do for people. I think that reading is a conversation starter. I cannot tell you how many times I have gone up to someone in a bookstore or a library and recommended them a book. People who were complete strangers. This is something out of the ordinary for me because usually I don't normally go out of my way to talk to people who I don't know.

I believe that reading is a beautiful thing. I didn't actually develop my love for reading until I was thirteen or fourteen years old. I think that everyone should give reading a try. I know a lot of people  despise the idea of even picking up a book. That is when I think to myself 'You just have not found the right book yet and you need to keep searching because once you find the right book your world will be changed forever'.

Let me know in the comments what you love about reading.

Thank you for reading!
I hope you have a good day!

Plans for the summer!!!

Hello everyone!!!
Today I want to discuss with you what I plan on reading for the summer.

There are a lot of BookTubers that have put up videos on what they would like to read for the summer and that inspired me to make a list of what I would like to read.

I made a list at the beginning of the year where I said what I would like to read this year. Link: http://plethora-of-nonsense.blogspot.com/2016/01/book-series-i-want-to-startfinish-in.html
This summer I would like to try and cross some of those books off that list.

I plan on taking a class this summer but I want to try to read some big books over the next few months because I know that in the fall I won't half as much time to read.

M Y   L I S T:

  • Winter by Marissa Meyer
  • Front Lines by Micheal Grant
  • His Dark Materials Series by Philip Pullman
  • All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
I think that this is a good list of chunky books. If I read all of these during the summer semester, May-July, then I will have read 2,828 pages!

Let me know what books you are planning on reading for the summer down below.

Thanks for reading!
I hope you have a good day!

April Wrap-Up

Hello everybody!
Today I want to share with you the books that I read this past month and some of my thoughts on the books.

This month I did not read that many books. I read two books this past month and started a third one.

The first book I finished this month was The Art Of Racing In The Rain by Garth Stein.
My rating: 4/5 stars
This book is told from the perspective of the family dog. If you want to read a book that will make you sad and bawl your eyes out, read this book. You get hit with the sadness in the first chapter where the dog talks about how he wants to die. The Art Of Racing In The Rain had one sad moment after another.
This book is about a journey. Not just the dogs journey through life but his owners. Garth Stein is a really great storyteller and after reading this book I think I am going to pick up more of what he has written.
I would recommend this book to people who are in the mood for a cute but sad book.

The second book that I read this month was If You Could See Me Now by Cecelia Ahern.
My rating: 4/5 stars
This book is very cute and kind of annoying. It was cute because of the dynamic between all of the characters and how they grow as the story progresses.
I want to tell you something from the book and it is not really a spoiler, if you don't want to read it keep scrolling down. The only thing that annoyed me was that it took so long for Elizabeth to figure out that Ivan is an imaginary friend. The reader finds out that he is imaginary in the first two chapters.  If I remember correctly I am pretty sure Luke and Ivan told her that he was not real. It just drove me crazy that it took her so long.
One thing that I really loved was the relationship between Elizabeth and Ivan. I am glad that he got her to open up and become a different person as time went on.

If you are looking for a cute little romance I would recommend this. :)

The last book that I started was Just One Day by Gayle Forman.
I have read this book before about two years ago. I wanted to reread it so that I could read Just One Year and Just One Night. I had to take a break from it though. I am really enjoying rereading it but I had to pick up something different. So right now I am reading The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan, which is also a reread for me. Maybe when I finish The Lost Hero I can finish reading Just One Day.

Oh I won't be posting a TBR this month because I am not sure how crazy my month is going to get.

Let me know what books you read this month and what you thought of them.
Thanks for reading!
I hope you have a good day!

A Night Out!

Hello everyone!
Today I wanted to discuss what I thought about a movie I saw recently and I want to show you some of my recent purchases.

Last weekend I saw The Huntsman: Winter's War with a friend. I thought that the movie was okay. It didn't really add anything to the Snow White story.

I do want to warn you that this movie is violent, obviously it has the word war in the title. wouldn't recommend that you bring your kids with you. I also think that there was a sex scene. You don't see anything but I just wanted to warn the parents out there.

I thought that the special effects were really neat.

There was one part in the movie that I thought was funny and that part was when the dwarf lady told Chris Hemsworth that she would be happy if he walked around without a shirt on.

There was only one thing that really annoyed me during the movie and that was that it took the main character the whole movie to figure out something that the audience knew the whole time.

Overall I would give the movie a 4.5-5 stars. Didn't blow me away also didn't bore me to sleep.

After we finished watching the movie we went to Walmart. I found a black backpack and a floral wallet. These are going to be my spring bag and wallet. I know that the backpack isn't very summery but I thought I could add some summer colors by adding a scarf and maybe some keychains.

This backpack may not look very big but it is. It fits my 13" MacBook. There is a zipper pocket on inside and on the outside. There is also a magnetic pocket in the front. The backpack stays shut through a turnable clasp.

I love this wallet! I don't think you can really tell in this picture but the colors on this wallet, especially the coral, look neon. There is a pocket in the front of the wallet. On the inside of the wallet it is coral and checkered print. I didn't want to put a picture of the inside because all of my cards are in there.

One thing that I really love about this wallet is the gold zipper. This wallet is the first item that I own that has some gold in it.

Next week I will post my April Wrap-up, so look out for that. I'm sorry that I didn't post this yesterday. I started a new job recently and my schedule is still up in the air. I still plan on posting once a week but it might not always be on Tuesday/Wednesday. To know when I post follow me on Instagram and on Twitter. I always post on those social media sites to let people know that I published a blog post.

Also guys I made a new Instagram that is going to be centered around books and my blog posts. So if you want to check that out here is the link: https://www.instagram.com/plethoraofnonsense/

Let me know in the comments if you have seen The Huntsman: Winter's War and if you did let me what you thought.

Thanks for reading!
I hope you have a good day!

Hello

Hello everyone, I know that I have not posted in a while and I am sorry. I fell into a rut about what I wanted to write about on here. I...
